Open Data refers to the ability to openly obtain raw data, primarily from public agencies. There is some belief that presenting content and data in PDF files is the antithesis of providing Open Data. Of course, we don’t believe that to be true.
I have prepared a series of 6 demonstration videos that will show how PDFs can effectively be “harvested” of their content and data, and more importantly how PDFs can be used to improve the delivery and usability of data.
The index of and links to the videos are as follows:
PDF Video 00 (03:42): Introduction
PDF Video 01 (10:59): Conversion of PDF to Structured/Editable Word Format (.docx)
PDF Video 02 (12:12): Conversion of PDF Made From Scans (.docx)
PDF Video 03 (07:17): Conversion of Tables in PDF to Spreadsheet Format (.xlsx)
PDF Video 04 (11:00): PDF Attachments – Human Readable Presentations with Open Data
PDF Video 05 (18.28): PDF Envelope – Supplying a Complete Package for Open Data
There are previous blogs on this site about PDF Attachments, Digital Signing and Authentication and various other topics touched upon in these videos.
